In this article, we are going to learn what is duplicate content and how it harms our website.
Duplicate Content
This is a content that appears on the internet in more than one location. Those locations are web pages that we can get by their URLs. So there will be chances if you write something on your blog and it might appear on blogs as well.
This will still sometimes creates an impact on the search rankings of our website. If we have similar content in multiple locations on the internet, it would be difficult for Google to find out which version is relevant for the search query.
Why Does Duplicate Content Matter?
For Google, it can create a couple of issues. When it has multiple references of similar content for the same query, it would be difficult for Google to choose which to serve. Because of this, Google may choose one among multiple references and the other will suffer in search rankings.
That’s why we shouldn’t have repetitive content on our website.
How To Check our Website has Duplicate Content?
There are different tools available on the internet that can scan our websites and tell us how much percentage of duplicate content our website has. One of them is Siteliner.
We just need to enter our website address in the input box and then press Go. It gives us a detailed report of our website like this.
This will give us a full report of our website. If we notice, this website has 23% duplicate content as of now and it has shared a list of links and their percentage. There’s no fixed number for this but the smaller the number, the website will rank high.
Along with that, it shares other information about our website like broken links, total pages, related domains, etc which will help us to investigate our website and make improvements.
